infrastructure within its province-wide network of cancer centres, which
includes the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton and the Tom Baker Cancer
Centre in Calgary. Prepared a Communications
Plan to improve integration of ACB’s communications processes.
Managed media relations for ACB’s corporate Head Office, provided
issues management support, and wrote and produced the ACB’s quarterly
magazine entitled Facing Cancer.

Worked with the Department of Population Health to identify and promote public health initiatives. Implemented a public awareness campaign to change the municipal smoking by-law to restrict smoking in public places in the City of Edmonton with support from CHA, Alberta Lung Association, Action on Smoking and Health, Edmonton Public Schools and restaurant owners. The campaign resulted in over 9000 calls to City Hall in support of the new by-law, 75% of which
supported further restrictions on smoking in public places. A complete ban on smoking in all public places, including bars and
gaming establishments, was implemented June 30,2005.

Evaluated nine years of summer festival programming in Victoria's Centennial Square and provided recommendations regarding future direction and funding for this program. Research included interviews with key stakeholders from the arts and cultural community, meetings with city employees and councillors, and the design, implementation and evaluation of two survey questionnaires developed for local businesses and residents.

Worked with Edmonton mental health agencies to develop a Mental
Health Services Policy and Systems Audit to actively engage
organizations and agencies in issues related to cultural sensitivity,
which impacts the effective delivery of mental health services to
newcomers. For use by boards and management, the purpose of this
self-assessment tool is to identify key barriers to accessible, effective,
culturally sensitive mental health-related supports and services
for newcomers, and to identify and develop appropriate strategies
and action plans to remove or diminish barriers.

East Central Alberta Cumulative Effects Project - ECACEP (2008 to present) |

ECACEP is a prototype project that engages community leaders in identifying desired environmental, social and economic outcomes and new forms of governance needed to achieve these outcomes. Conducted a scenario planning exercise to identify four stories of possible futures (scenarios) specific to the study area. These scenarios are being used to help identify desired outcomes for this sub-region, as well as forms of multi-stakeholder governance structures with clearly defined roles, responsibilities and accountabilities needed to achieve these outcomes. Also responsible for identifying and diffusing project learnings, which will be used to support the implementation of the Alberta Government's new Land Use Framework.

Alberta Climate Change Adaptation Team - ACCAT (2006) |

ACCAT is a cross-ministry team representing 11 Alberta government departments. Designed and facilitated a workshop with stakeholders, including academic experts, industry representatives and government employees on issues related to climate change adaptation.

Conducted three studies of stakeholder preferences and public awareness of water and watershed management issues including a media scan and telephone interviews of stakeholders and decision-makers. Prepared a Consultation and Communications Plan to raise public and stakeholder awareness of water and watershed management issues, and to engage citizens in the development of a Terms of Reference for a Sturgeon River Basin Watershed Management Plan. Developed an extensive database of contacts.

Project Blue Eagle was a program initiated by employees at TELUS to
refurbish used computer equipment to give to people with special needs.
Worked with the Director of Community Relations at TELUS to restructure
the program, which had grown
beyond the corporate resources available
to support it. Took over management of the project and established a
partnership between TELUS and the national program, Computers for Schools,
to ensure its on-going survival.
